Load Pull Methodology to Characterize Class-E Outphasing Power Amplifiers
A novel load pull methodology to characterize the performance of class-E outphasing power amplifiers is presented. The traditional analysis of the outphasing topology cannot be applied when classE amplifiers are used because these amplifiers do not behave as an ideal current or voltage source. Unlike most other amplifier classes, class-E amplifiers require a phase modulated input signal with co...
متن کاملA Power Re-Use Technique for Improved Efficiency of Outphasing Microwave Power Amplifiers
An improved power re-use technique is introduced for application to outphased microwave power amplifiers. The technique allows a significant portion of the wasted out-of-phase components of the signal to be returned to the power supply, resulting in substantial improvements in overall power-amplifier efficiency. A peak re-use RF-to-DC efficiency of 63% was obtained at 1.96 GHz.
متن کاملDigital assistance design for analog systems: digital baseband for outphasing power amplifiers
Digital assistance is among many aspects that can be leveraged to help analog/mixedsignal designers keep up with the technology scaling. It usually takes the form of predistorter or compensator in an analog/mixed-signal system and helps compensate the nonidealities in the system. Digital assistance takes advantage of the process scaling with faster speed and a higher level of integration. When ...
متن کاملDesign of High Efficiency Class E Power Amplifiers
This paper presents a new procedure to design of high efficiency class E power amplifiers (PAs) using nonlinear transistors. The active device (MESFET-ATF34143) has been investigated and load harmonic networks have also been designed to match the requirement. By using the new procedure, the power added efficiency (PAE) of PAs could be increased to over 70%. The effect of the stabilized resistor...
متن کاملDual Mode Logic - Design for Energy Efficiency and High Performance
The recently proposed dual mode logic (DML) gates family enables a very high level of energydelay optimization flexibility at the gate level. In this paper, this flexibility is utilized to improve energy efficiency and performance of combinatorial circuits by manipulating their critical and noncritical paths. An approach that locates the design’s critical paths and operates these paths in the b...
